H-4 extension with a gap, but under 485 pending. Any problems?

This happened because our lawyer said no need to extend H4 under 485 pending, so we have a 10 month gap now. For college application, we have to fill out something, either an approved GC or a visa type. Anyone has same experience? Thanks.
