your lawyer, you probably need to wait the approval
of new I797 for travel. But if your current visa
is still valid when you come back from China
and your current I797 hasn't expired, you should
be able to travel and come back.
Somehow, your wife should get clarification from
the consulate about exactly what they mean by "interview
with hu*****and". I would suggest you to write
a letter to the consulate and fax it to the consulate,
you should be able to find their fax number
on their website.
