The coming extention is within the H1 6 years limit so you don't need to tell them about your I-140 if you don't want to. When you need to extend H1 beyond 6 years in 2012 and no EB1B at that time, you must show your NIW I-140 approval to the school so that they can petition for your H1 beyond 6 years.
