The professorship offer to those who meet school academic needs, not because of international reputation. E.g., offer you a professor will help this school in educating students, even you do not have international reputation. Think about this, the criteria states "small group of people", how many professor are there in this world? Your achievement is more important, e.g., you win the international prize, even you are a research associate, because only small group of people can win the prize, even you are not a professor.
