What I have done was: a one-page cover letter including a list of new evidence such as manuscripts in preparation, new publications, conference/ meeting attendance and so on, a letter of employment from the department stating you are working in the same area as claimed in I-140, copies of your supporting materials. In your cover letter you need to clearly state" the evidence strongly demonstrates I am actively and fruitfully carrying out and will continue to carry out the terms and conditions of the underlying Form I-140 immigrant visa petition". Nothing to worry, just a common REF.
