My huband has to change to H4 from H1. Can we prepare the paper work ourselves or it is better to find a lawer?
-The H1 petition has to be filed by his employer. If his employer agrees, your hu*****and can prepare the paperwork for the employer or hire a lawyer.

My PERM was approved last month. My hu*****and is on his fifth year of H1 and is being layoff. My questions are:
1) Can he extend his H1 after 6 years, next year?
-He can not extend his H1 status beyond 6 years based on your PERM or I-140.
2) When can he re-start working?
-he only can work after the H1 petition is approved. So, he may ask his employer to use Premium processing to get the H1 petition approved within 15 days.
3) Can he hold H4 until 485 approved?
-Yes.
no 6 years limition for H4?
-Yes, H4 has 6-years limit, but H4 status can be extended beyond six years depending on the H1 status.
