Usually, J visa is subject to 2 year residence at your home country. Although you have mainland China passport, but since you worked in Hongkong, they waivered your 2 year resident requirement. It means, you can directly change your visa from J to H, if you like and you don't need go through the painful J waiver program. It is definitely a good thing for you, acturally, it is excellent. Don't cry for "help", find a place and smile.
