If he does nothing, he will be out of status < 180 days when he graduates in June. This will not affect his future reentry to U.S. or green card application. So, he may choose to do nothing if he wants to leave U.S after he graduates. If he wants to go to college in U.S. after he graduates from high school, he had better change his status to F1 now.
