H1-B extension while 485 pending

My H1-B will expire Sept. 30, has EAD until next year August. Lawyer asks me to renew H1-B. But since our team is facing re-orga, I want to delay the application. Today, HR warns me that I should renew now to avoid H1-B delay. So, if I submit the extension form and later get lay off, will this increase the chance of my 485 be referenced immediatelly? I beleived that my 485 has been processed before and waiting for qouta since my PD is very late. Thanks for your help
