We are US citizens, have one child. The reason we want to adopt her is to give her a "family" so she doesn't have to grow up in a single parent family. She is the only child of her parents.

Will we be successful to adopt her? Can we adopt her through Chinese Embassy since she is in the US already, or must we go to China to adopt her?

We need to get her into school, and this requires custody. If we file petition for custody now (she just arrived one week), will that be an adverse factor when we apply green card for her since he is came to US on B1 visa?
