Grabbed some EB1B requirements from uscis

A U.S. employer may file for an outstanding professor or researcher, with at least three years of experience in teaching or research in the academic area, who is recognized internationally as outstanding.

But I do know one of my friends filed EB1B only one year after his graduation. So as long as you can justify, everything is possible.
