Thank you very much. I work for a State government and I highly doubt HR knows they need to notify INS since no one has a clue about H1B in the first place. But to be on the safe side, I will seek a B2 visa per your advice.

No, I don't anticipate difficulty re-entering the US in future as i have been in good standing throughout. With regards to retirement investment, my entire funds are diversified over several government bonds. I think i will leave them alone for now. Thanks again for taking time to respond.
