as with any kind of valid visa, if you are traveling, you should definitely make sure your passport is not going to expire soon. But you are applying H1B STATUS, not visa since you are already in the US. Only an embassy can issue a VISA. For obvious reasons, there is NO US EMBASSY within US. Got it?
