Please make sure you keep your last paycheck which is the only document approving you are not out of status. Find a community college to get an I-20 then file the visa transfer to F-1. You will need to send the copy of your last paycheck along with the application form to INS.

This is not the end of world. Transfer your visa to F-1 then looking for job. I did the same thing one and half a year ago and I've already working on my new job 6 months ago.
