Calling is very important. Actually I once spoke to a supervisor directly over the phone.
If the NIW I-140 is withdrawn, and the Eb1 I-140 should be automatically relinked to the I-485.
Here is the letter for request.

Dear Sir or Madam:
My EB1a I-140 application has been approved in January 2008. I request you to kindly relink the approved EB1a I-140 with I-485 to take advantage of the first preferences employment-based immigration.
My I-485 was filed with EB2 NIW I-140 concurrently, but it could be inter-filed with my approved EB1a I-140 according to the Pearson Memo and USCIS regulations. In addition, the major advantage of I-485 based on EB1a I-140 is that the visa is at current. It will make me adjustment of status sooner if you can do me a favor to relink the approved EB1a I-140 with my pending I-485. I really need your help and please do the inter-filing for me.
The following is the information for my application.
