US passport and Chinese passport---Question for XBT

I have a situation here and I would like to get help from XBT or others who have experience:

My son was born here in 2004, he has US passport. We went back to China in 2006 and I managed to register him for residenceship (hu kou), and i use this hu kou to get him Chinese passport. So he has both. I took him back to US last December using lu xing zheng. Now the lu xing zheng expires.

My question: can I take him back to China using Chinese passport and come back to US using US passport this summer? Is there any risk doing that? We have our 485 pending and plan to travel using AP.
