Not quite sure! If the gap is not too big, the USCIS might approve it just as when you don't have a pending 485 at all. If so, there will be a new I-94 attached to your approval notice, and otherwise you need to get a visa outside of the US. Don't know what your current status is. If you have a status other than h1-b, you will have to get AP before leaving the country, for otherwise you are thought to have given up your 485. If you don't have a job, the 485 is unlikely to be approved. So, just concentrate on looking for a job, and all other things are secondary. Good Luck!
