I agree with you that "GC is based on future employment". But in practice, one is not currently employed, with respect to underlying I-140 petition, at the time of adjudication, will usually not have his adjust application approved.
Generally, an EB-1b does not need an interview. One of triggers is that EB-1 changed his employer, as in I-485 SOP. Giving the situation, I could not think of a better suggestion than what XBT suggested, to put EB-1b in a SAFE position.
