* If you are a Chinese citizen, and if you fly to and out of Hong Kong, you can stay for 7 days each way without visa for "transit" purpose, providing you have a valid entry document to return to US, for example Green Card, or a multiple-entry H1/F1 visa. I have done this many times, so shoot me an email if you have questions.
* If you are a US citizen, you can stay in Hong Kong for 90 days without applying for a visa
* If you are a Taiwan resident, and if you have entry document to mainland China, you will be treated same as Chinese citizen, i.e. 7 days in and 7 days out. If you don't have such a document, please refer to the 2nd link below.
* If you are a citizen of other nations, please refer to this page for details http://www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/hkvisas_4.htm
* If you are a Hong Kong resident, well, Mou Man Tai La
