Your GC portability is protected by law on condition that your 140 has been approved while 485 has been pending over 180 days. Therefore, old company will not be able to revoke your 140.
The reluctance to offer help in your 485 RFE from old company attroney is uncontrolable. To avoid any jeopardy in your 485, you should monitor 485/140 case status closely and keep tight with the attroney. If you have 485 case number, you should easily monitor any updates on your case.
In case your 485 is denied, eg. due to late response to RFE, H1b remains the viable option that allows you legally stay in this country.
