U are dependent, can use EAD, H1 as you want. You will need to activate H1 from consulate, then you will become H1 status. However, AOS is your background status. You will resume AOS when using AP. Remember, using AP does not affect your H1 validity too.
Thus, PJiang simplifies the association between H1 and AP on his blog: they are not relevant.
