Some people worry about losing H1 or losing AOS. AOS usually stays as background status after filing 485. You can always show employer your AOS status by showing 485 receipt; or use EAD for job change to enter pure AOS; or apply H1b application/extension to activate H1b status.

CIS modified memo (2005) interpretes that after AP entry, an H holder will be paroled and keeps H1B status at same time, since H status enjoys previllege of dual intention for immigration. For your case, you can certainly continue to work for current H1B sponsor and are eligible to file H1b extension with same employer later on. After H1b extension is granted, you will come back to pure H1B status.

Well, don' worry about that you may lose AOS. When you use AP to travel again then you will enter parolee/H. Or, use EAD for job change to terminate H1B (not part time job) to get pure AOS if you would like to.
