The reason why USCIS gives applicant H1b 7 yr extension is to allow adequate time for applicants to finalize their GC applications. Once 485 is denied, GC application is considered finished, then there's no ground for applicant to stay in US for this purpose. Thus, if 485 is denied, your H1b will be automatically ceased.
