HELP: B-2 visa and Passport validity when leave US

In general, if the person wishes to come to US with B-2 visa, his passport should be valid for at least 6 months beyond his intended period of stay in US. Is this requirement also applied when he leaves US? In another word, should his passport still be valid for 6 months when he leaves US?
