J-1 scholar to J-1 student

I am a J-1 scholar and have just got a position for PhD student. Hence, I have to change my J-1 scholar to J-1 student in TJ or CJ. I would gratefully appreciate if you would tell me how much the risk for the visa change is. Thank you very much in advance.
