Lawyer says: I can stay in US as long as my I-1485 is pending.

I also went to local INS. They said the same thing as the lawyer had said. Moreover, the Local INS officer said that I am still in H1B status now. (Note: I did not use my EAD after my return, and I am still working for the same company)
