H1-B status, could I go home?

I need help regarding to the following matter, if you know about it, please give me some advise. Thank you very much.
I am Chinese from Beijing. Currently I have my H1-B and work in a small American company. The company has business in China. My boss is planning a business trip to go to China(Shanghai) in Nov. He asked me if I could go back with him. Of course I would be love to. But I don't know since I only have H1-B, how risky that I could not be issued a Visa to come back to the states? And so I am from Beijing, however we will be going to Shanghai. Could I go to U.S. embassy in Shanghai to get the Visa or will I have to go to Beijing to get one.
