Yes. The congressman's office can be easily contacted by phone or email. But it's a good idea to fax them a letter stating your based information if this is the first time you contact with them. My feeling is that they couldn't push USCIS, but can only check the case for you by emailing to the service center. They can get back very soon. This would save you several Infopass trips to get correct information about what stage is your case in.
