Back China, Background Check for sure?

Came to US 2001 holding F-1. Never go back. Chemistry major. Planning going back for 2 wks in Jan 2008. Currently H1-B.

A friend said for sure I will get a background check, minimum 15 business days.

Anyone knows if this is for sure?
