Can I renew H1B?

Very unfortunately, my I140/485 was rejected. I almost lost confidence in reapplying the green card. I just want to stay for another 3 years or so in US, by then, my child hopefully will be able to go to college. I am currently holding H1B (first H1B). My question is: Can I renew my H1B after the current one is expired (in next June? I heard that one can not renew his nonimmigration visa once he taks action to file I485. Is this true? Since my I485 failed, I am so concerned about this. In addition, if I can renew my visa, does my H1b count to total quota of H1B (I am working in a University)?
