the problem of ead is from USCIS no longer issuing interm EAD. So,it's their fault. You can go to local office and ask them to expedite the process for you and ask a notice for no longer issuing EAD and sign up with it, bring the notice back to your employer and convince them you can work with the receipt. A little gap is OK, the key is if your employer pay you. So it should be OK to convince them why you can't get re-EAD in time.
