you can get your landing fee refunded if you choose not to land.
I landed Canada last month. At that time, I was still I-485 pending. So our situation may be different. When I came back from Canada, the immigration officer at the border did ask me the purpose of my trip to Canada and I told him honestly that I landed Canada. Since you are US greencard holder now, I am not sure if you will be asked that question if you go to canada and come back to US. You may want to ask other greencard holders how they come back to US from abroad.
You may eventually give up one permanent residence. I may as well. If I were you, I wouldn't go for landing, unless you have figured out a way to keep your Maple card valid in the next 4-5 years so you can become a Candian citizen. The only good thing about Canadian PR is that it's easy to keep the permanent residence and faster to become a citizen.
Just my thoughts. Please make you own decision.
