H1/AP: Anyone in a similar situation before? Please advise!!

Our situation:
AP approved August 2. Plan to make a trip to China in two weeks' time;
H1/H4 extension approved August 20.

Our question:
Some say that H1/H4 extension approval would automatically void approved AP. Is this true? Anyone in a similar situation before?
