call them and write a letter yourself. Don't relay on your lawyer. It happened to me before. I called first and write a letter to USCIS. I got the RFE one month before the due day. Try to call first this way (posted by fffafff):

call 1-800-375-5283
Press 1-2-2-6-1
enter your receipt number
press 1
press 3
press 4
this can take you to either TSC or NSC and get your a Immigration officer to answer your call.
