to my knowledge,
1) yes, when you leave USA by plane, you must surrender your I-94,
2) and you can get back on AP, with exit +entry stamps on your passport,

3) why do not you plan to stay one day or more?
just say "visit friends".

better way is :driving for landing and get back easily.
