the purpuse of AP is allow you to travel outside of US and the 485 processing would not be affected. so, go ahead to use AP.

about the reason why you have to travel, they do not really care about it. you can put any reason you want such as visiting elderly, taking care of family business and so on. i never heard anyone got denied.
