I think you still can wait. I fully understand how you feel.

Let me tell you my experience. I came to this country in 1999 and applied for GC three times. My boss was initially very negative,when he became positive,I found out the secretory of the department was negative. Then she got breast cancer and died. So I was able to start the application through LC. When the LC was pending, I moved to another institution, so the LC application failed. Then I had my wife apply for GC, her application then went to BEC. Finally I decided to apply by myself based on the lessons l learned from previous experience. I started my 2nd application (NIW) in March 2005, it was approved in Sep 2005. But my 485 is still pending... forever.. I know a couple also used 8 years to get the GC. As for family affairs, I think it will make you a stronger than before. Be strong, and face the reality. Wherever you go, Good luck!
