This is what I did in Ohio. You need an introductory letter from your school explicitly defining your expiration date of new work appointment, so that the bureau of motor vehicle can assign you the driver license.
You need the receipt, I-129 documents copy. If you have a spouse, her/his name needs to be included in the introductory letter.
Better renew before your current DL expires.
