If there's huge backlog of 485, it takes longer to get 485 approved. Before approval, one needs to spend money each year to renew their EAD and AP if they apply for them. Yes, we can potentially escape from the 485 fee increase upfront, but we will be trapped into another cage of paying annual fee for EAD and AP.
