請教專家，什麽是priority date

看了文學城新聞，有個律師行這樣寫：
我們建議申請人盡快提交I-140申請(NIW, EB-1A, EB-1B) ，以獲得較早的優先日期。
I-140跟優先日期有什麽關係？難道是提交140的日期？

又聽說是提交勞工申請的日期。到底是哪一個呢？
