請問小白兔,射線,等各位: If -140 is failed, what is my status?

My hu*****and is H1b. I am F1/OPT and my OPT will expire in May 2008.

Hu*****and is ready to send out the I-140 and I-485 cocurrently in July, and I am the dependent.I want to apply for EAD based on the I-485 application.

I have a concern: if my huaband'I-140 is failed unfornately, what will be my status? Can I go back to my F1/OPT? Or I still have time and opportunity to apply for H4. Will I have to go back to china to apply for H4 visa and reenter the US?

I could not answer those questions by myself. And also, I checked all the wobsites I can find, but I am confused by all the different answers to those questions.

Could you please give me some help? This is very important to me and my family.
