Hi, I think after the submission of your 485. you will be fine and you will be treated as AOS (adjustment of status). It is legal to wait for its outcome on AOS alone. However, in order to work, you have to apply for EAD which is associated with 485. Just be careful of RFE for 485 later on. If you don't have a job at that time, you will be in trouble. So apply 485 and look for another job ASAP.
