Study or work ?

If you want to come together, you can apply for the same school and TRY to get F1 visa individually. This is a long term project for you guys to plan. Like take TOEFL, GMAT or GRE, and make sure you have enough funds to support your study assume you don't get any financial support from the school

To work in US is also possible but could be a more difficult goal to reach. But who knows, if some company here is willing to hire you and sponsor your H1B then this is another route. So, you need to be realistic to see which one is better for you.

Another option is to study in Canada. At least the student visa is easier to get compare to US. And if you have some work experience, you might be able to apply for Canadian immigration later.
