Yes you can use AP as long as you remain continous legal status in the past and is eligible for applying AP.

The USCIS seldom honor the expedited request. But you can still try you luck. Make an infopass appointment with the local district office. Bring the letter from the school showing urgent reasons and air tickets. Usually they won't approve expedited AP because of business reason, but it's no harm to have a try.
