1. Please make sure you needn't wavier. As I know J1 who even has no subject to two years home contry residence stilll need wavier.

2. After J1 extend to 5 years, waiver may be not available any more.

For above two informatin I am not sure if they are correct. Please check them for yourself. As you are taking a key step, be carefull. Sometimes the information from international office of university is not completely correct, they will not take resposiblity for your trouble from INS in your green card application later.

3. You may have not enough time to apply H1 now. If you really needn't wavier. You can extend J1 several months, then file H1 at once. Because after your J1 expires, if you haven't got H1, you can't work.
