Please help about turn in I-94 at the airport

Hi,

I'll go abroad for a trip. When/where do I need to turn in my latest I-94 at the airport?
1. When I check in for luggage claim and boarding pass before the security check?

2. Or after checking in and security check, at the time of boarding?
