AOS and H1B question

Hi folks
I just used AP two weeks ago, and my H1B will expire in the end of this August. The assistant of department asked me to extend my H1B, and she think that I can extend my H1B though I am AOS status. But I am not sure that she is right. Greatly appreciate for your any input. Thanks a lot
