H1 remains valid for employment purpose if no EAD applied.

Now if the unpaid leave is also legal for your current employment you'd be fine for H1 employment status. For travel you've become an parolee for a long time. -- This was based on what my company lawyer explained to me many years ago so you may want to double check with your company's counsel (not HR, who does not know much on immigration details).
