Xiaobaitu and other experts, help, please!

xiaobaitu and experts,

I remember someone had talked about 'port letter' before. My petition is based on NIW. I changed my job several months ago (after 180 days after filing 485). In my impression, filing 'port letter' is optional. But my company's lawyer told me that USCIS should be notified whenever there is a change in employer, my company MUST file a 'port letter' for me. My concern is I don't want to do anything extra to make things worse....

How do you think?
