yes you were right. for HLKV you can get a visa at consulate and reenter US. some people I know they got both. Got AP, when in China, try H visa. if any difficulties, or long bkgrnd ck they get back by AP.

for F1 you must get AP. F or any other status, if you leave US w/o AP, you are considered you have ABANDONED your 485 - very serious consequence.
